Splish Splash trip for children e

On Tuesday, August 26, the Garden City Recreation Department is again sponsoring a trip to Splish Splash Water Park, located in Riverhead, for youth entering grades 6-9 who are resi-dents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Buses will depart from the park-ing lot at St. Paul’s School at 9 a.m. and will return there at approximately 5 p.m.

Supervision for this trip will be provided by the Recreation Staff. The children will enjoy several hours of river rapids, slides, and tube rides at this fantastic water park. The cost of this trip will be $30 per person, which will include unlimited rides at Splish Splash and transportation.

Space is limited to 50. Please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue by Thursday, August 21 to register for this trip. Payment must accompany your registration and must be in cash. For further info, please call the Recreation and Parks Office at 465-4075.

Registration For Fall Roller Hockey

The Garden City Recreation & Parks De-partment is proud to announce the start of its Fall Roller Hockey Program at Community Park. This program will be open to residents of the Village of Garden City in grades K thru 12 according to the following schedule:

Kindergarten Learn & Play Clinic -Sundays at 1:45 p.m. for one hour beginning September 7th

1st Grade Pee Wees – Sundays at 3:00 p.m. for one hour beginning September 7th

2nd & 3rd Grade Mites – Sundays at 4:30 p.m. & 5:45 p.m. game times beginning September 7th

4th & 5th Grade Juniors – Fridays at 4:00 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. game times begin-ning September 5th

Middle School 6th, 7th, 8th Grade – Fridays at 6:45 p.m. & 8pm. game times beginning Sept 5th

High School 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Grade – Fridays at 9:15 p.m. beginning Sep-tember 5th

K – 8th grade divisions – $80 High School Division – $70

All participants are required to wear the following equipment at all times: Hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, roller blades, protective cup, hockey stick, & long pants (no shorts allowed).

30 and over roller hockey registration

The Garden City Recreation & Parks Department is proud to announce the start of its Fall Roller Hockey Program for adults at Community Park. Games are strictly pick up and teams will be set each night according to the amount of participants there. This program will be open to residents of the Village of Garden City and will begin on Sunday September 7th at 7 pm.

The price for this program will be $ 70.

Fall children’s tennis class

We are pleased to announce the start of registration for our Fall 2014 Indoor Tennis Program for Children at the Com-munity Park Tennis Center. Registra-tion for Session one lessons begins im-mediately for residents of the Village, by mail only until September 11.

A schedule of classes and a registration form is on the reverse side of this information sheet. Walkins and Non resident children attending Garden City Public Schools****will be accepted beginning

September 11. Make checks pay-able to the “Inc. Village of Garden City”. Mail the registration slip and registration fee to the Recreation Dept. at 108 Rockaway Avenue. Please note – our classes are not considered day care and can not be declared for tax exemption.

****Non resident children who would like to register for our tennis program must prove they attend one of the Garden City Public Schools. Proof must accompany registration and will be accepted beginning September 11. An additional $50 fee will pertain to anyone in this category.

Junior – Ages 8 to 11 Extension of Novice Level program. Continued empha-sis on striking concepts, movement, and skills related to tennis play.

US Sports Institute Parent & Me Squirts Program

Garden City Recreation and Parks is again sponsoring the very popular US Sports Institute Parent and Me Soccer Squirts program. Each Parent and Me class will focus on maximizing participation and learning through games designed to develop motor skills and stimulate the child’s imagination. This program is open to any child age 2-3 who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City and the parent/caregiver. All programs take place at St. Paul’s. There will be no class on October 13. Adult Art Class At Cluett Hall

The Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks will offer an adult art class this fall. This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/stilllife in pastel from photographs.

Classes will be held Tuesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The cost of this program will be $110. This class is open to adult residents who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City. Classes are held in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall beginning September 16.

The first lesson includes a portrait and landscape demonstration. At that time, a supply list is provided.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required as they move at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Rueth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her portraits hang in many Garden City homes, as well as throughout the United States. A portrait of Elvis Presley permanently hangs in Graceland, and Barbara Walters is among her celebrity commissioned subjects.

This year Arleen has added some basic drawing techniques to her pastel workshop. Those wishing to draw with pencil and/or charcoal only are invited to join this class.

Adult Yoga Summer Classes

Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed adult yoga classes with all ages in mind. Each class is one hour long. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes. The course schedule is as follows:

Mondays at 7:30 p.m. beginning July 7 in St. Paul’s Senior Center

Thursdays at 9 a.m. beginning July 10 in St. Paul’s Senior Center.

Our Recreation and Parks office offers one week summer camps for the younger child too! “Parent and Me” camps for ages 2-3, and soccer, multi sport, tennis, lacrosse, and preschool camps are offered for ages 4 -6.

Each camp is usually 45 minutes to two hours long, depending on the camp and all camps run in one week sessions from Monday to Thursday. These camps are open to residents of the inc. No Dogs Allowed

With the spring season sports openers just behind us, our Department of Recreation and Parks would like to remind all residents that dogs(pets) are not allowed in any neighborhood parks, Community Park, or St. Paul’s fields.

Non – compliance with this rule will result in the issuance of appearance tickets.
