The Garden City Titans leapt to a quick 2-0 lead early in last Saturday’s game against Rockville Centre, thanks to two goals in succession by Michael Franco. Franco’s first goal took advantage of the post-corner kick confusion at the Raiders’ end of the field, while his second was off an intercepted Raiders goal kick. Not long thereafter, Mark Luglio received a throw-in and dribbled past his opponents to lob an easy goal past the keeper. Defenders Riceman, Leggett, and Prendergast dominated the attackers to the point where keepers Leighton and Schlitche did not see much action during the game, while Jack Roscoe also helped his team penetrate the Raiders’ defense.

The Titans’ next goal came from Brian Leggett, off a quick touch from Joe Leighton. This was followed quickly by Conor Lehan’s goal on a ball he stole away from the Raiders offense. Michael DeSimone then scored an uncontested goal as he dribbled past the Raiders’ defense, to end the half with the Titans ahead 6-0.

In the second half, the Titans eased back while containing the Raiders to their own end of the field. The only Raiders goal was nullified because of an offsides call. Owen Prendergast scored in the second half on a misjudged Raiders goal kick, and Jack Riceman later earned an assist by passing to John Schlitche who punted the ball into the Raiders goal. Bobby McLoughlin played aggressively and helped keep the Raiders defense occupied at their own end of the field with his footwork.
