On November 16th Garden City Police assisted the GCFD when it responded to a house fire on Roosevelt Street.

There were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal and NCPD Arson Squad responded to the scene.

Hit bridge and ran

Garden City Police investigated a report of a box truck striking the Cherry Valley bridge on November 16th and leaving the scene with substantial damage. With assistance from Nassau County 3rd Precinct Officers, the truck was located on Main Street in Mineola. The driver was arrested and charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and leaving the scene of an accident.

Suspended license

A motorist on Meadow Street was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stop sign on November 16th.

No fire, no hot water

Garden City police and firefighters responded to a residence on November 16th for a fire call and determined the cause to be a leaking hot water heater. 

Laser damage

On November 17th a male victim reported that another male pointed a laser light at him, causing damage, pain, and discomfort to his eye. 

Burnt food

On November 17th GCFD and GCPD responded to Garden City High School for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a burnt food item.

Suspicious messages

On November 17th Garden City Police investigated a report of a person receiving suspicious social media messages.

Unsecured load

A truck driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with driving with an unsecured load on November 18th.

Carbon monoxide alarm

Garden City Police and Firefighters responded to a residence for a carbon monoxide alarm on November 18th and determined the cause to be a faulty battery.

Hit tree and ran

On November 18th a motorist was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after striking a tree on Rockaway Avenue and fleeing the area.

Suspicious incident

On November 19th a man with a ski mask was observed walking between cars in an 11th Street driveway and then leaving the scene in another vehicle which was waiting in the street. When a Garden City Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle for traffic violations, it fled the area at a high rate of speed. It was later determined the vehicle in question was reported stolen from Newark. There was no loss reported on 11th Street.

Suspended registration

A motorist on Edgemere Road was charged driving with a suspended registration and passing a Stop sign on November 19th. Another motorist on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration and operating a cell phone.

Contempt of court

On November 20th, upon investigation of a domestic incident, a 49-year-old male was arrested for alleged violation of a court issued stay away order. He was charged with Criminal Contempt. 

Package stolen

On November 20th a victim reported that a package delivered by the Post Office was stolen.

No burning of leaves

On November 20th, upon investigation of a smoke condition on East Drive, Garden City Police and Firefighters observed a resident burning leaves in a back yard. Firefighters extinguished the fire. Officers cited the resident for violation of the Village Code regarding open fires.

Paper plates

A motorist on Tanners Pond Road on November 20th was charged with driving with fraudulent paper license plates and passing a stop sign.

E-Z Pass thefts

On November 21st a local business reported the theft of multiple E-Z passes, which were subsequently used at various toll locations for a loss of $30,000. 

Unauthorized account

On November 21st a victim reported that their identity was stolen and used to open an unauthorized bank account.

Vehicle damaged

A vehicle was reportedly damaged by unknown means while parked at the Wyndham Condos on November 21st.

Defective brakes

A truck driver on Pell Terrace was charged with improper registration and defective brakes on November 21st.

Another bridge strike

On November 21st, upon investigation of a truck striking the Cherry Valley bridge, the driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.

Excessive speed

On November 21st a motorist on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended license, a suspended registration, and excessive speed.
