On November 10th a commercial van struck the Chestnut Street overpass. The driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs.

Larceny reported

Garden City Police investigated a larceny report in which a letter placed in the mail inside the Garden City Post Office was intercepted, altered, and cashed by an unknown person.

Leaving the scene

Officers investigated a  report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on Cherry Valley Avenue on November 10th.

Home burglary

Officers investigated a burglary at a Westminster Road residence on November 11th. Entry was apparently through an unsecured rear door. Several pieces of jewelry were reported stolen. Evidence was secured and Crime Scene Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Second burglary

Another burglary was reported on the same day at a Third Street residence. Two suspects apparently entered the residence by breaking a rear window. The suspects apparently fled the house after realizing it was occupied. One item is reported missing. Evidence was secured and Crime Scene Detectives responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Arrest for leaving the scene

Garden City Detectives arrested a 69-year-old female for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury. On November 8, the subject allegedly drove her vehicle over the foot of a female pedestrian in Parking Field 6E and left the scene without exchanging information. The female victim suffered a foot injury.

Fire alarm

Garden City Police and Firefighters responded to a residence on November 11th for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be a faulty detector.

Light outages

Officers responded to two traffic light outages, one on Clinton Road and the other on Hilton Avenue on November 11th.

Safety details

Officers were assigned to traffic and safety details for a Veterans Day Ceremony held on 7th Street.

Suspended license

On November 11th a motorist on Cherry Valley Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license, defective brake lights, and excessively tinted windows.

Aggressive driving

On November 11th a motorist on Hilton Avenue was charged with multiple aggressive driving violations including passing a red traffic light.

Package stolen

A package was reported stolen from the front porch of an Avalon Road residence on November 12th.

Credit card stolen

On November 12th Garden City Police investigated a report of a male subject entering a Franklin Avenue office without permission and removing a credit card from a drawer.

Fraudulent plates

On November 12th a motorist on 3rd Street was charged with driving without a license, fraudulent license plates, and uninsured operation.

Gate failure

On November 13th Garden City Police responded to the Nassau Boulevard RR Station crossing for malfunctioning railroad gates.

Tree fall

As a result of strong winds on November 13th, Garden City Police and Firefighters responded to Hilton Avenue where a tree fell onto a house, apparently damaging the roof, windows, and gutters. No injuries were reported.

Burnt food

GCPD and GCFD responded to Adelphi University on November 13th for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be burnt food.

Unlicensed operation

A motorist was charged with driving on Clinton Road while unlicensed and passing a red traffic signal light. 

Leaving the scene

Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene on Clinton Road after colliding into another vehicle on November 14th.

Unauthorized transfer

On November 14th a resident reports an unauthorized monetary transfer was made from her bank account to another person’s account.

Check altered

On November 14th a person stated a check placed in the mail inside the Garden City Post Office was intercepted, altered, and cashed by an unknown person.

False alarm

GCFD and GCPD responded to a Ring Road Restaurant for a fire alarm on November 14th. They determined the cause was cleaning chemicals.

Swatting report

Officers responded to a Cambridge Avenue residence on November 15th after the Department received a phone call stating there was a burglary in progress at that location. Upon investigation, Officers determined no burglary occurred and all was in order; the call is being investigated as a filing a false report “swatting” incident. 

Unlicensed operation

A motorist on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving while unlicensed and operating a mobile device on November 15th. 

Fire response

On November 15th Garden City Police and Firefighters responded to the Nassau Boulevard RR Station for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be construction in the area.

Hit and run

Officers investigated a report of a SUV leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on Nassau Boulevard on November 15th.

Smoke in bank

On November 15th the GCPD and GCFD responded to a bank for a smoke condition. Upon investigation, the cause was apparently due to an issue with the HVAC system. For safety reasons, the system was shut down by the fire fighters.

Elevator malfunction

Garden City Police assisted firefighters who responded to an Old Country Road building and safely removed three people from a malfunctioning elevator on November 15th.

Suspended license

On November 15th a driver of a commercial vehicle on Stewart Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and defective brakes.
