On September 8th Garden City Police responded to Hilton Avenue and Stewart Avenue where a vehicle left the scene after striking and injuring an 82-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the street. The pedestrian suffered a leg injury and was transported to a local hospital. After an investigation, Garden City Detectives located the vehicle arrested a 67 year-old Long Beach man for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident with an injury.

3-car bridge accident

On September 8th Garden City Police responded to Cherry Valley Avenue where a truck struck the train trestle, then backed up, striking another vehicle which then struck a third vehicle. No injuries were reported. The truck driver was charged with disregarding bridge clearance signs and failure to cover loose cargo.

Fake plates

Garden City Police say that on September 8th a motorist was observed on Cherry Valley Avenue entering the Middle School while disregarding a “Do Not Enter” sign. He was charged with driving with a suspended license, fraudulent license plates, and disregarding a traffic sign.

Suspended license

On September 8th a motorist on Washington Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and excessive speed.

Identity theft

On September 8th a victim reported their identity was stolen and used to file false unemployment claims.

Trespasser seen

Garden City Police investigated a report of a female trespassing in the rear yard of a Prescott Street residence on September 8th.

More fake plates

On September 9th a motorist on Hilton Avenue was charged with passing a red light, fraudulent license plates, and unregistered operation.

Cyber-attack

On September 9th a victim reported that he was a victim of a cyber-attack. The victim states when he never received an item he ordered online, he called the alleged seller who advised him to download an app to help him attain a refund. After downloading the app, the victim realized someone was going through his computer files. 

Criminal contempt

On September 10th a 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly entering his ex-girlfriend’s residence without permission and in violation of a stay away court order. He was charged with criminal trespass and criminal contempt.

Porch pirate

On September 9th an unknown male was seen on security cameras stealing an item from a 2nd Street porch and checking car door handles in the driveway.

Franklin Court trespassing

An unknown male was seen on security cameras trespassing on a Franklin Court property on September 10th

Suspended licenses

A motorist on Old Country Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stopped school bus on September 10th.

On the same day, a motorist on Rockaway Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and speeding in a school zone.

Sparking outlet

On September 10th the GCFD and GCPD responded to a Franklin Avenue building for a sparking electrical outlet. Firefighters safeguarded the scene until it could be repaired.

Identity theft attempt

On September 10th Garden City Police received a report that an unknown person attempted to use a victim’s identity to open multiple credit card accounts.

Fraudulent charges

On September 11th a victim reported that there were several charges made against her credit cards. Upon investigation, it appears her wallet was stolen from her pocketbook while shopping in another town.

Excessive speed

A motorist on Clinton Road was charged with driving with a suspended registration and excessive speed on September 11th

Suspended registration

A motorist on Clinton Road and Chestnut Street was charged with driving with a suspended registration and tinted windows on September 11th.

Gate malfunction

Officers responded to a railroad gate malfunction at the Hilton Avenue crossing on September 12th.

Laptop stolen

A victim told Garden City Police that on September 2nd, he discovered his laptop computer stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at the Cherry Valley Country Club.

Suspended license

A motorist on St. James Street North was charged with driving with a suspended registration on September 12th.

Door damaged

On September 13th a Hayes Street resident reported that unknown person(s) damaged his front screen door and a wreath hanger.

Unauthorized accounts

On September 13th the Garden City Police Department investigated a report of a victim’s identity being used to open an unauthorized credit card account with subsequent purchases made against the card. 

Fake plates

A motorist on Rockaway Avenue was charged with fraudulent license plates and speeding in a school zone on September 13th. 

Illegal ads

Garden City Police investigated the illegal placement of advertisement stickers on Village street light polls.

Hit and run

Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on Franklin Avenue on September 13th.

Oven fire

On September 13th the GCFD and GCPD responded to a Clinch Avenue residence for an oven fire. Firefighters determined the cause was an electrical issue and rendered the area safe.

Threatening calls

Officers responded to a Franklin Avenue business on September 14th to investigate a report of threatening phone calls.
