MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM: THE POLICE REPORT

Hit and run: Garden City detectives arrested a 20 year old Williston Park woman on September 7th for allegedlyleavingthesceneofanaccident that took place on September 3rd. Police believe the woman was driving a vehicle that did not stop after being in a collision with another vehicle on Cathedral Avenue.

Who let the dogs out? On September 3rd a Garden City homeowner was issued appearance tickets for unregistered dogs and allowing them to run loose.

Attempted burglaries: On September 4th officers responded to an alarm at a New Hyde Park Road business at which the rear door had been tampered with and damaged. In addition, a neighbor reported seeing two men running away from the rear of the business.. There were two similar incidents reported in Franklin Square.

Not art: On September 5th graffiti was found on the Chestnut Street railroad bridge.

Leaving the scene: A Levittown woman told police that a red vehicle struck and damaged her vehicle when it was parked in Nassau County Field 3 on September 5th. The woman said the driver left the scene without stopping.

Identity theft: Garden City detectives arrested a 22 year old Merrick woman on September 5th for identity theft. Police say the woman, who worked as a nanny, took her employer’s credit card in August and used it to purchase property from local stores.

Domestic incident: A 45 year old Garden City man was arrested on September 6th for allegedly violating an order of protection by ending threatening text messages to another family member.

Three women were arrested on September 6th for allegedly attempting to steal more than $2400 worth of merchandise from Lord and Taylor on September 6th. Arrested were a 24 year old from Staten Island, a 22 year old from Staten Island and a 30 year old from Lindenhurst.

Truck stop: A truck struck the Nassau Boulevard overpass on September 6th, which damaged the truck but not the overpass. The driver, a 48 year old Woodhaven man, was cited for disregarding bridge clearance signs and uninsured operation.

DWI arrest: A 19 year old Hicksville man was arrested by Officer Russell on September 7th after a traffic investigation on Meadow St. and Clinton Road. He was charged with DWI (Impaired), passing a red light, possession of alcohol in a vehicle and uninsured operation.

Public exposure: Garden City detectives arrested a 56 year old Hempstead man on September 7th for allegedly exposing himself to a West Hempstead woman. According to police, the woman said she was walking on Cathedral Avenue when the man pulled up his shorts exposing himself as he jogged passed her.

Light damaged: A driveway lantern to a Stewart Avenue residence was damaged by unknown means on September 7th.

Underaged alcohol: Two youths, ages 18 and 19 were issued appearance tickets for alcohol possession (beer) on September 7th. Another youth, age 15 was cited for alcohol possession and released to a parent.

Bike taken: A locked bicycle was reported stolen from the Country Life Press railroad station on September 8th.

Hit and run: Witnesses observed a red 4-door sedan back out of a parking space in Field 9W and strike a parked vehicle causing property damage on September 8th. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Liquor theft: On September 8th Garden City police arrested a 36 year old Levittown man for allegedly taking more than $3,600 in merchandise from his employer, a liquor distributor on Commercial Avenue.

School’s open: The Garden City Police Department conducted its annual Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) to coincide with the beginning of the school year. During this program, Officers were assigned to enforce traffic laws in the vicinity of Village Schools. From September 2nd through 9th, officers assigned to this program issued tickets for 72 school zone speeding violations, 13 general speeding violations, five stop sign violations, one passed school bus violation, three suspended license violations and 55 miscellaneous moving traffic infractions.
