Thanks, Tullamore friends

To the Editor:

Saturday’s Old Timers Celebration is something I will always remember. Seeing all of you was wonderful, but hearing your family and career success stories and how you are making a difference in people’s lives blew me away. I know some of you traveled long distances to be a part of the celebration and I want to tell you how grateful I am that you came. The day was fun. Gas ran all the Golden Oldie Events (Tullamore Frisbee, Softball, Girls Kickball, and even a hint of Water Day!). It was also a very emotional day with a beautiful Memorial Service for those park kids who have left us. The rain even stopped for the heartwarming service led by Tommy O’Brien and Gas.

The evening led us to Doc O’Grady’s where the congrats and stories continued. Thank you Mayor Watras for your proclamation and kind words. To Richie Anderson, Dean of the Park Guys, a job well done for a very long time.

Finally, I want express my deep thanks to Mickey Paxton, Sallie Bunn, BJ Murphy, John Garibaldi and the rest who worked on the Committee. I don’t think you could have done it any better. To Gas and Mac, you guys are special to me. Mac, I will always cherish your words written so eloquently in the GC News. And Gas, you were spectacular in every role you played on Saturday, I couldn’t be more proud!

In closing, may I say that you were all “Park Rats” back in the day, and it seems like your hearts are still there today. I think that makes you “Special”. Wouldn’t it be nice if more kids had the opportunity to become, “Park Rats.

My Best to you always,

George Roth
