Seventh-grade students in Mrs. Porter’s Spanish classes celebrated Cinco de Mayo in a different way this year. They dressed up and performed talk shows in Spanish.

Students were asked to decide whether they would like to perform on the “Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The “Late Night Show with David Letterman”, “The Ellen Degeneres Show”, or the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” One student took the part of the show host. The other student pretended to be a famous celebrity.

The show started with students watching the beginning of the real TV talk shows. The video camera then turned to the student show host who introduced the Spanish version of the show to the class. The show host asked the celebrities questions about their age, place of residence, family, favorite foods, favorite color, hobbies, favorite movie and favorite actor or actress. Students were told to be creative and to try to make their skit stand out from everyone else in the class.

The goal of this activity was for students to practice their speaking and writing skills. This show was also practice for the speaking part of the final exam.
