Professional Long Island musicians will create a tropical music ambiance with pulsating calypso, reggae & contemporary songs on unique instruments called steelpans. Imagine you’re in the Caribbean with toe-tapping, hand-clapping, head-bobbing, & hip-swaying music! Enjoy tunes like “Yellow Bird,” “Hot, Hot, Hot,” & “Brazil.”

This concert is designed to demonstrate versatility of the steelpan that was created in the Caribbean shortly after World War II. The steelpan is often mistaken for a percussive instrument because of it’s design when in fact it is a melodic instrument. Questions & answers will follow the concert for anyone interested in learning more about steelpan instruments.
