Operation Wounded Warrior Continues

Garden City Volunteer Firefighters, under the direction of Chief William Graham, are once again co-sponsoring Operation Wounded Warrior this year with area volunteer fire departments. Operation Wounded Warrior will be on the road again and will travel to deliver Christmas & Holiday Care Package Items to soldiers wounded in combat operations in the middle east. The care packages will be delivered to wounded soldiers in Walter Reed Army Hospital, Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington D.C, soldiers at Fort Bragg and MCB Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as well. Area volunteer firefighters will be delivering the items the weekend of December 1st. Garden City Fire Chief Bill Graham noted, “it’s the time of year once again that we must continue to support the men and women of our armed forces that sacrifice for us. The donations we receive from our community are truly appreciated by the wounded warriors and their families, they really help during these very difficult times for them.”

Garden City Volunteer Firefighters will be collecting donations of the following items: letters & cards to soldiers, pre-paid phone cards, pre-paid Stop-and-Shop store cards, weightlifting gloves for wheelchair bound patients, sweatshirts, breakaway pants with snaps along leg, white ankle socks, new toys for preschool and grammar age kids of wounded soldiers, diaper and baby care items for infants of wounded soldiers, patriotic t-shirts, and Mets and Yankee shirts. In addition, monetary donations are sought to help purchase gifts for the soldiers and their families. Letters and cards to soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen can also be sent.

Garden City volunteer firefighters will also be at the St. Paul’s athletic fields on Saturday November 6th and Saturday, November 13th to collect donations.
