News From the Children’s Room

Although this April may not be like any others we have experienced in recent times, we know that we will get through this with each other’s help!  The Children’s Librarians continue missing their patrons while they are working from home to come up with some activities – both fun and educational to keep you busy!

Stop by the Library’s website www.gardencitypl.org  and check out an eBook or digital audiobook on Overdrive.com or download the free Libby app. Additional digital content for children is being added everyday. Browse our online databases specifically for children. You can access TumbleBooks, Sesame Street eBooks, Novelist K -8, Tutor.com, TumbleMath, and Creative Bug, to name just a few of our online resources. Let your imagination soar and be entertained at the same time.  Explore virtually and learn as you go!

There are so many virtual tours you can do, online games to play, eBooks to read, and places to learn about from your home. If you want to experience the great outdoors, you can visit five National Parks from the comfort of your home by going to  www.travelandleisure.com/trip-ideas/national-parks/virtual-national-parks-tours . Virtual tours are available of  Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico,  Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah , and Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida. Tour famous museums around the world through www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/12-virtual-museum-tours-kids-230000199.html. You can visit the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and New York’s MOMA, to name just two of the world class museums available for virtual visits. Follow Garden City Public Library – Children’s Room on Facebook to learn about new virtual classes, activities and visits you can enjoy at any time of the day during this time of social distancing.

If you don’t have a library card, now you can get a digital library card. Apply for digital access today at nassaulibrary.org/digital-card-application . If you do have a valid library card, use that one, it works just fine online and there is no need to apply for another.  There is also an option if you have a valid library card but do not know the barcode that the system will send the number to you.

Whatever you choose to do while you are home, please be safe and take care of your family.  You can reach out to the Children’s Librarians by email at www.gardencitypl.org/contact-the-childrens-librarians/ .
