Mind Your Manners

To the Editor:

In the June 24th edition of the GC News, you published an article entitled, “Code Amendment Approval Delayed Again.” In this article, Mr. Leo Stimmler, a Garden City resident concerned about cyclone fences in GC stated, “If they are in the rear half of the property, they are less of a visual disturbance to the community, to the neighborhood, we’re not Levittown. All of us made sacrifices to come to this Village.” I would like to inform Mr. Stimmler that the fine people of Levittown have made sacrifices to be there too. I am proud to say that I was born and bred in Levittown; and, I saw the sacrifices my parents made to raise me and my siblings there in a fine house with yes, a cyclone fence!

Mr. Stimmler would do well to peer over his own inoffensive fence to see and hear what other people think of Garden City residents. It is not complimentary. His statement reinforces the ugly stereotype of Garden City residents (privileged and arrogant.) It may be news to Mr. Stimmler that the proud people of Levittown are not focused on Garden City as some sort of Holy Grail. There is a multitude of people sacrificing for their families in all different communities across the globe. Like the people in Levittown, they work hard, they take care of their homes and they try to raise their children to be happy and productive.

I wonder what Mr. Stimmler, and others like him, are sacrificing to have the time and energy to snoop on their neighbors’ homes; and, to insult the decent hardworking people in Levittown? I live in Garden City now, but I am always from Levittown. My advice to Mr. Stimmler is to get a productive hobby; do something positive for your neighbor; and most importantly, mind your manners.
