Fall is upon as. It’s a time for apple and pumpkin picking, trick or treats and painting our favorite memories.  The Art Department of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead is now offering its well- received art class, Life Through Art, for all budding as well as seasoned artists. This is a six-week workshop starting, Thursday, October 7 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and is offered only to members of the Community Club. If you have ever had the desire to draw or paint, there is no better time than now to do so.  This art class lends itself well to the current situation, since tables are kept socially distant and masks can be worn according to personal preference. Painting is very therapeutic and the camaraderie that develops while learning lasts forever.

Arleen Rueth Urban PSA, who has been teaching pastel and basic drawing for many years at the Community Club, welcomes those who wish to draw or paint in any medium. Beginners interested in learning the basics of drawing techniques from the right side of the brain, will soon advance to painting their subjects in pastel or pencil. Those already engaged in other painting mediums will be exposed to further developing their painting and drawing skills to another level of expertise. Observation of good composition, color techniques, and determining values will be learned. Arleen is also a professional portrait artist. Her pastel paintings of people homes and pets have graced the homes in Garden City as well as throughout the country for decades. She works from photographs which simplifies the experience for her clients by saving them hours of posing. Photographs will be used in class as well, enabling students to choose a favorite subject for their paintings, whether it be a landscape, still life or portrait.  Last year Arleen formulated three virtual exhibitions/competitions through the Village Art Club of Rockville Centre. Her most recent show, “Dualing Easels” included adults as well as children of all ages. Her students were invited to participate as well as their young family and friends from nursery through high school years. Eligibility for upcoming shows will be offered for any future exhibitions.

Arleen is a true believer that art is the only entity in life that actually improves with age. If you are reading this paragraph, you most likely have a hidden talent or desire that needs to be explored. Her classes are fun, entertaining, and productive. She will demonstrate the art of pastel painting at the very first class on October 7. If you are interested in learning more about this class, registration, fees or portrait commissions, you can call Arleen at 516 352 6798. If you are interested to learn more about the Community Club of Garden City, its art department, and all it has to offer, you can contact Arline Palmer, Art Director at 516 747 1926. Be sure to register ASAP since space is limited due to current limitations. Remember that this year’s “newcomer” is next year’s “Rembrant”. It’s time to explore the positivity of creativity as you begin to enjoy all that may have gone unnoticed prior to taking “Life Through Art” with Arleen Rueth Urban PSA.
