Lady Trojans keep the streak alive in week four

Garden City Lady Trojans were riding a five-game winning streak when they started week four of in-season play.  They faced in-league rival Plainedge on Wednesday, April 13th with a 14-7 victory and then played non-league Seaford a day later for a 16-10 win.  Adding these two wins, the team now holds a 7-1 overall record with a 5-0 in-conference record.  They are the second ranked team in the conference just behind Wantagh.

Garden City controlled the Plainedge game from go.  Kendal Morris and Ariana Bransfield controlled the draw giving the Trojans key offensive opportunities. Scoring was spread amongst the talented offense: freshman Kyle Finnell (4G), Marie Cacciabaudo (3G, 1A), Carla Curth (3G, 1A), Caitlin McNaboe (1G), Rory Heslin (1G), Maureen Arendt (1G), and Katie Gaven (1G).   The defensive backline of Kasey Prybylski, Maggie Moran, Catie Kephart, Kate Gambino, Gwen Liberopoulos, Rory Heslin, Mabel Overbeck, and Emily Romeo kept the Red Devils offensive stingers at bay.  Goalies Niamh Pfaff and CeCe Van Blenis notched four saves each in the win.

Less than twenty-four hours after their victory against Plainedge, Garden City turned around and met non-league Seaford with another decisive victory, 16-10.  Adding a fun layer to the match was facing off against Coach Ettinger’s daughter, who plays for Seaford.      Much like the Plainedge game, the offensive success was spread amongst the highly capable team: Katie Gaven (3G), Maureen Arendt (2G), Carla Curth (2G), Kathryn Monaco (2G), Caitlin McNaboe (1G), Regan Backer (1G), Marie Cacciabaudo (1G), Maeve Dorney (1G), Catherine Hayes (1G), Kyle Finnell (1G), and Tori Ottomanelli (1G).  The draws taken by Kendal Morris and Ariana Bransfield helped control possession throughout the game, while attackers Kristen Hegarty, Olivia Cappello, and Grace Hopkins helped create scoring opportunities.    The defense held the Vikings to ten goals led by Kasey Prybylski, Maggie Moran, Catie Kephart, Kate Gambino, Gwen Liberopoulos, Rory Heslin, Isabel O’Connor, Sheila Mullins, Mabel Overbeck, and Emily Romeo.  Amanda Grimes notched seven saves, while CeCe Van Blenis counted four saves.

The Lady Trojans head into Spring Break with full throttle training.  The team will end their training week on Saturday, April 23rd at the Gains for Brains Charity Lacrosse Showcase where they will face Suffern at 1:00pm at Cold Spring Harbor High School.  Next week, they will kick-off the week on Monday, April 25th with a league game against North Shore away at 4:30pm.  Come cheer on Garden City Girls Varsity Lacrosse!
