How did “politics” come to Garden City?

If you have spent any time reading articles submitted by the FABGC Party or their social media posts, you may come to the mistaken conclusion that our Village is falling apart, if not a disaster zone.  However, the reality is Garden City remains an extraordinary place to live and raise a family.  Undoubtedly, every town and village has its significant issues and Garden City is no exception, we are ready to tackle them head on. But the truth of the matter is, we are a village that is beautifully maintained, has a great police department, brave volunteer firefighters and wonderful schools, parks, pool facilities and so much more.  Simply put, we believe our village works and it works well. In Garden City, our residents work hard and are proud to be part of a special community.

Unfortunately, our opponents are well schooled in old-fashioned negative politics, the type we constantly see at the state and national levels.  They are consistently writing and harping on the same issues and see our village as a “half-empty” glass of water. Do they forget who’s got majority control of the current BOT. Clearly, that type of politics divides and polarizes us.  That is why the Community Agreement Team candidates are committed to getting politics and political parties out of our village and have a return to civility.

How did our opponent get so good at negative politics you might ask? We don’t know, maybe it was its leadership and/or perhaps they were schooled in it last year by their legal advisor Tom Garry, a top leader and strategist in the Nassau County Democratic Party. If true, we don’t need outsiders controlling or influencing the Village governance narrative, we need Garden City residents calling the shots in all matters having to do with the wellbeing of its citizens.

We acknowledge that over the course of 100+ years, the decisions our Village community leaders have made have not always been perfect or met with 100% approval but isn’t that part of life’s reality?  To continually rehash the past but not learn from it is to prevent forward movement.  We should strive to improve upon ourselves and evolve, to take lessons from history and move forward into a better future for Garden City.  It is time to halt the polarizing of topics and just be community advocates for the health and well-being of our residents and prosperity of our Village. Which brings us back to our basic tenet as Community Agreement Candidates. Help us keep politics out of Garden City!

We encourage all residents to visit our website at gardencitycap.org that has information on ways that you can support us by volunteering and donating.  Please also visit our Facebook Page at @gardencitycap and be sure to Like and Follow to stay abreast of the campaign.
