Hit And Run Suspect Sought

A Garden City mother wrote to The Garden City News this week to request help in finding a driver who struck her son while he was riding his bicycle and then drove off.

According to the mother, on June 14th at 2 p.m. her son was riding his bicycle at the corner of Country Club Drive and 11th Street when he was strck by a red SUV driven by a white, middle aged woman. “Jack, my son, was knocked off his bike and actually had to crawl out from under the car. The woman who hit him drove away. The three cars behind her did not stop to see if he was okay,” she said.

She said that while her son was not seriously hurt, she is shocked at the way the drivers behaved. “For the driver and then more cars not to even stop at the scene of an accident with a bicycle rider and car really says something and it’s not very good. They did not know if he had internal injuries or was disoriented and just could not be bothered to find out.”

The mother hopes that anyone who witnessed the incident comes forward and provides information to the Garden City Police Department. They can be reached at (516) 465-4100.
