GCPTA school supplies deadline

Avoid the last-minute scrambling for school supplies in August, and order them online. The 2013-14 supply kits are offered through Epipacks, and are teacher-approved.

Ordering supply kits is easy because each kit is specific for every school and is organized by grade level. Simply go to www.epipacks.com and enter the code GAR054. Select the school and grade your child(ren) will be attending in September 2013.

The supplies can be picked up at Garden City Middle School cafeteria on June 1st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. GCPTA volunteers are always at the ready to make sure you get your supplies in a quick manner!

More and more parents are choosing this method of ordering because the supplies are complete.

If there are any problems, Epipacks are very responsive. If you have any questions, please contact Jackie Costello at jjcostello@optonline.net.

But hurry. The deadline is Tuesday, April 8th!

When members of GS Troop #1258 heard that guests of the Mary Brennan INN, a social service agency in Hempstead, were using paper towels to dry themselves after showering, they were stunned. The things we take for granted. Towels. Soap. Shampoo.

Led by Leaders,Gigi Clarkson and Mary Flanagan, the girls contacted local business, stores, and neighbors, and collected donations of towels and toiletries for the INN.

After several weeks’ work, the girls obtained enough supplies for 132 shower kits. This effort enabled the girls to obtain their Bronze Star awards as Juniors.

Many volunteers were vital to this project’s success, including Eileen Harrington who chaperoned a visit to the INN prior to the collection effort. Of course, the project could not have been a success without the generosity of those who gave of their resources.

The giving goes on! During the spring sports season, there will be a collection bin inside the front door of Cluett Hall for new or gently used towels, and soaps and shampoo. (Thank you GC Rec!) Donations will be picked up on a routine basis until the third week of May.
