Gazebo walkway replaced, made more accessible

The new walkway was designed to rise up to meet with the concrete ramp on the east side of the Gazebo thereby eliminating the concrete step that was an impediment to accessibility.

Crews from the Village of Garden City have replaced the gazebo walkway on the Village Green to the west of Village Hall. The project involved removing the old walkway, replacing it with new brick that matches the ones used at the nearby Fire Department monument.

The new walkway was positioned away from the tree to keep the bricks from being uplifted by the roots and the parking field curb cut was repositioned to the north to align with the new walkway. Most important, the new walkway was designed to rise up to meet with the concrete ramp on the east side of the Gazebo thereby eliminating the seven- to eight-inch concrete step that was an impediment to accessibility. The remainder of the project will include fresh landscaping in the spring and a new fence along the northern edge of the planting area.
