Garden City Fire Chiefs Take Oaths Of Office

Mayor Robert J. Rothschild administered the oaths of office to William Graham as chief of the Garden City Fire Department, and Charles Cavarra, William Castoro and Joseph Nadolny as assistant chiefs, at the April 16th Village Board of Trustees meeting.

Chief Graham was elected to the position of chief of department at the department’s annual meeting on April 9th. He has proudly served the Village for 13 years as a volunteer firefighter. In addition, Chief Graham also served 20 years with the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY).

During his tenure as a Garden City firefighter, Chief Graham has served leadership roles in the Company and assistant chief officer positions for seven of his 13 years of service to the Village. In their capacity as fire chiefs, Chief Graham and his assistant chiefs command the entire department of both volunteer and paid firefighters, a force of over 100 strong. In their command positions, the chiefs oversee four volunteer and one paid company, as well as a staff of 12 volunteer and six paid company officers. Chief Graham and his assistant chiefs bring more than 80 years combined firefighting experience to their positions.

Also sworn into office to command and corporate positions in the fire department were: Captains James Meehan, Jr., Brian Gallo, Neil O’Malley and Matthew Tittler, and Lieutenants Vincent DeJoseph, Robert Horvath, Donald Young and Douglas O’Mara. Elected corporate officers were Secretary Steve Carss, Assistant Secretary Greg Young, Treasurer Gerry Whalen and Assistant Treasurer Bob Kalb. Ex-Chief Thomas Foley was elected as a delegate to the Nassau County Fire Commission.
