Eighth-Grader Wins Language Award




Michael Abatemarco , an eighth-grade student in Mrs. Porter’s Spanish class at the Garden City Middle School, was the only Long Island recipient of the 2006 Fulvi Language Award. Michael was chosen for this special award by the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers.

The Fulvi Language Award, a $50 U.S. Savings Bond, honors eighth-grade students from each region in New York State who demonstrate a special interest, excitement and superior aptitude in their study of foreign languages. Michael’s enthusiasm for the study of Spanish, along with his overall academic achievements, earned him this prestigious honor.
