College notes




James Madison University is excited to welcome the class of 2018 to campus this month. The incoming freshman class represents an accomplished, diverse group of individuals who hail from 36 states, the District of Columbia and 35 countries around the world. The following Garden City students are among the freshmen:

John Connors, who plans to major in accounting

Jacqueline Calugaru, who plans to major in biology

Derek Attardi, who plans to major in engineering

Kyle Harder, who plans to major in finance

Brendan Duke who plans to major in management

Carissa Mastanduono, who plans to major in marketing.

Joseph Mascia, of Garden City, has completed initial entry training in the New York Guard, held the week of July 20-26 at Camp Smith, the New York National Guard training facility near Peekskill.

The New York Guard is a uniformed volunteer force which assists and augments the New York Army and Air National Guard in responding to natural disasters, state emergencies or state security missions. Twenty new members completed the training to become a full-fledged member of this force. Mascia has been assigned to the 88th Regiment of the New York Guard.

Garden City resident, Brittany Burke has enrolled at James Madison University for the fall 2014 semester.

Two Garden City students will be among members of the freshman class at the University of Dayton this fall. Patrick Mohan and Anthony Kritis will be part of one of the school’s one of the largest and most academically prepared and diverse classes in school history, with 2,200 first-year students.
