“Caring For Your Aging Parent” Support Group

Winthrop-University Hospital’s Division of Geriatrics is pleased to announce that it will hold a “Caring for Your Aging Parent” support group during four consecutive Wednesdays in the summer, starting July 14. Meetings will be held in Winthrop’s Board Room (first floor, main hospital), at 259 First Street in Mineola, from 7:30 to 8:45 PM.

Sessions will address a variety of issues helpful for individuals who wish to assist their parents with living well at home, as well for those who feel it is time to make plans for long term care. Topics are scheduled as follows: July 14 – Community Resources to Maximize Time at Home; July 21 – How to Assess and Address Driving Safety; July 28 – Ways to Help Prevent Falls, and August 4 – Preparing for Long Term Care.

The group will be led by a licensed social worker who specializes in geriatric care. Guest speakers will share their expertise on specific issues.

Meetings are free, but pre-registration is preferred. Attendance at all sessions is recommended, but not mandatory. To register for the support group or for more information, please contact Linda Martinez, LMSW, at (516) 663-8220.
