Brian Johnston To Receive Business Education Award





One of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce’s recent initiatives has been for formation of a charitable foundation. One of the missions of the Foundation is to award an annual scholarship to a deserving Garden City High School student who has excelled in the area of business.

It is announced by Ross Mongiardo, president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc., that Brian Johnston, a senior at Garden City High School, will receive the Foundation’s Excellence in Business Education Scholarship Award at the Chamber’s Pineapple Ball on April 7 at the Garden City Hotel.

Brian has a weighted GPA OF 91. Throughout his time at Garden City High School, Brian developed an interest in business, taking nine different business courses including business Law, Sports Marketing, and Business Management. In 9th grade, Brian joined the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and is still currently a member. In addition to his FBLA membership Brian played ice hockey all four years of high school, including playing this year for the Garden City Wings. In his junior year, Brian got a job with the Garden City Recreation Department where he continues to serve as a Park Attendant and as a Roller Hockey coach for the Recreation Hockey League. Brian is also a soccer referee on Saturdays, a service which he has continued since middle school. This fall, Brian Johnston will attend St. John’s University where he will major in Sports Management.
