Adelphi University honored ten exceptional high school students from Garden City at the University’s annual Prize for Leadership ceremony. The Prize for Leadership recognizes high school students who reside in Garden City for their outstanding public service and volunteer leadership. A reception was held in their honor at the Ruth S. Harley University Center.

The award recipients received a $1,000 stipend, a commemorative clock, a tuition waiver to take two courses at Adelphi during their final year of high school, privileges to utilize the Adelphi University libraries, and an invitation to an event with a leading scholar, artist, or political figure who visits the University during the academic year.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must be residents of Garden City and in their third year of study in a local high school. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, exceptional leadership skills, and a dedication to community service. Applicants must provide a high school transcript and two letters of recommendation. Winners are determined by the Adelphi University Prize for Leadership Committee.

The 2008 recipients include Julia Cenzoprano, Sarah D’Antonio, Elizabeth Debold, Lauren Giambrone, Alexa Gutierrez, Allyson Maclay, and Laura Wysocki from Garden City High School; Colin Dickinson from Chaminade High School; and Emily Tompsett from Our Lady of Mercy Academy.
