9/10 Girls Are District 29 Softball Champs





The Garden City girls 9/10 year old softball tournament team defeated New Hyde Park on Friday, July 13, to win the District 29 championship.The girls opened the double-elimination tournament with a hard-fought 10-8 loss to Garden City South Facing elimination, the girls then defeated Carle Place and Franklin Square to set up a rematch with Garden City South with the loser going home and the winner facing New Hyde Park (who didn't have a loss at that point)? The girls gained a measure of revenge by defeating Garden City South 11-9 in a hotly contested game. The girls then played New Hyde Park,  needing two wins to take the District title. The girls won the first game easily, setting up a winner-take-all match. In a tense, hard-fought final, the Garden City girls prevailed by a 4-2 score to become District Champs, Superb pitching, outstanding defense and timely hitting carried the team throughout the Tournament.Congratulations to team members Caroline Beaty, Brittany Burke, Taylor Carpentier, Kate DeMarco, Lindsey Galligan, Jennifer Leary, Rachel Ludwiczek, Caitlin Mahland, Evan Molitor, Ali Montgomery, Kayla Murphy, Kristen Rasquin, Becky Reifler and Taylor Will. Manager Rich DeMarco, coachs Jim Burke and Mark Molitor, and tournament director Kathy Will want to thank the family and friends of the girls for all of their support.
