Reading To The Dogs At Library

The popular Read to a Dog program with animals from the Bide-a-Wee organization returned to the Garden City Public Library on Saturday, November 1st. The dogs enjoyed listening to stories read to them by the children of Garden City in Grades 1-5. The Senior Youth Group of the Cathedral of the Incarnation provided a fun filled Halloween Party for younger members of the parish and their friends. The party was held on Friday, October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. There were lots of traditional games such as Bobbing for Apples and Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin as well as many other Halloween activities.

Troop 56 Bike Hike Explores Northern Westchester

On Saturday November 1st, the Boy Scouts of Troop 56, Garden City, ventured up to the North County Trailway in Westchester County for their annual bike trip. The boys enjoyed colorful foliage, beautiful scenery and mild weather during the twenty mile bike adventure past farms, houses, highways and reservoirs. The highlight of the trip was definitely the ice cream break at the ten mile mark.

The Hofstra University Symphonic Band invited eleven Garden City Middle School students to participate in the 2008 Middle School Honors Band Festival. The festival included students from our district, as well as students from all over Nassau and Suffolk County. The children of Garden City Nursery School celebrated Halloween in a big way. The week was filled with pumpkin carving, Halloween songs and poems, special snacks, and of course, plenty of costumes. Children in the three- and four-year old programs came to school all dressed up as their favorite characters.

The boys prepared hard all week to face this big, talented group. The large turnout of Thunder families was excited to see just how far their Men of Thunder had progressed since the dog days of August.

U10 Wildcats Defeat Massapequa Lady Thunder

The Garden City Wildcats closed out their inaugural LIJSL season last Saturday by visiting the Field of Dreams, home of the Massapequa Lady Thunder. There was to be no letdown on this final day of the season. The Coaching staff provided a spacious van complete with washable markers for the Wildcats to decorate the windows as well as their faces.

The 7s were the under card for two tremendous Thunder play-off games. Field Hockey Wins Fourth Straight Long Island Title

A 24-6 victory over Levittown Division earned the Trojans (7-2) a trip to Hofstra Stadium this Saturday night to meet Hewlett (7-2), a 32-7 winner over New Hyde Park. Mud Can't Slow Down Raiders

Concluding the season with one of their toughest opponents, the Boys U-11 Raiders edged a very determined and talented team from Roosevelt, by a final score of 2 to 1. The win was the fourth consecutive victory for our boys and propelled the Raiders to a 6 and 3 final record, good for 3rd place in the ultra-competitive N-3 Division.

George Oakman Goldner George Oakman Goldner of Garden City and Oak Island, North Carolina, passed away on October 7, 2008. Mr. Goldner grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School in 1964. He attended Hamilton College, and received his BA and MBA degrees from New York University.
