The San Jacinto Council of Girl Scouts from Houston, Texas has received thousands of evacuees from Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina hit at the end of August. They have identified the need for gift cards to nationwide chains as a way of getting clothing, toiletries and other needed items into the hands of girls and their families who have been displace and are living in shelters. Through the money Brownie Troop #1110 raised through their QSP magazine sales last year, they were able to send cheerful, "hand-made" cards along with gift cards from WallMart to those Girl Scout sisters who were most affected by Hurricane Katrina. The girls loved making their own cards and felt great about helping those in need.
