Making waves against cancer

Team Stacey ready for action Team Stacey ready for action On Saturday August 5th, Cheryl Adams McAuliffe of Coach Realtor’s Garden City office swam a mile in Long Island Sound to raise money for cancer research. This was her seventh year as a member of Team Stacey, a Swim Across America team that was started 9 years ago to honor Stacey Leondis ~ a fabulous young woman who lost her seven year courageous battle with osteo sarcoma at the age of 23. Cheryl swam in memory of Stacey, her colleague, Herta Kapp, and her mother. She also swam in honor of those currently battling this horrendous disease.

Seventy-three team members raised an astounding $178,190 making Team Stacey the #1 Swim Across America fundraiser in the country! Team Stacey has raised $888,190 in total over the last nine years and is well on the way to achieving their million dollar goal for their 10th anniversary!

Proceeds raised from the swim will fund: immunotherapy clinical trials, lung cancer and breast cancer clinical trials, pediatric brain cancer research and pediatric oncology research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Feinstein Institute of North Shore and University of Texas MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital Center - Stacey Leondis Fellowship.

Cheryl said that she thinks Sloan’s slogan- “More science, less fear” says it all. “And that is why we swim!”

She is recruiting swimmers for next year’s swim and welcomes any inquiries from swimmers or sponsors.
