The team points are awarded by number of points achieved based on number of "placers" in each weight bracket. Garden City had two Gold champions: at 132 lbs., Captain Jack Reina and at 145 lbs., Captain Matt Schmelzinger. Matt Schmelzinger had the additional distinction of being awarded the MOW, Most Outstanding Wrestler. Three Garden City wrestlers took the Silver: at 113 lbs. JP Moran; at 126 lbs. Tom Reina and at 285 lbs., Matt Vitale. The significance of these results is that, out of 13 weight classes with 13 teams, five Garden City wrestlers placed 1st and 2nd.

That's pretty darn good.

Garden City earned a Bronze by freshman Tim Schmelzinger.

4th place was earned by the following:
99 lbs. Freshman Christian Irwin
126 lbs. by Cpt. Kevin Patalano
160 lbs. by Tom Lane

This is a great result achieved by both seasoned wrestlers, such as the Reina Twins, the Schmelzinger Brothers and Matt Vitale as well as all the newcomers, such as Christian Irwin, Tom Lane and Nick DeMoura. This 2nd Place finish was a result of the hard work and effort of the entire GC wrestling team.

Thursday, January 3rd, the team travels to Hewlett to take on a division rival in a dual meet. The GC team anticipates that the winning momentum will continue. GO TROJANS!
