G.C. Pool Interviews for 2013 Season

The Department of Recreation and Parks will be holding interviews for prospective pool employees (you must be a Graduating
High School Senior or Older) for the upcoming 2013 season on the
following dates:
Thursday, December 27
Friday, December 28
Thursday, January 3
Friday, January 4
Tuesday, January 8
Wednesday, January 9
Thursday, January 10
Between the hours of 10am and 4pm
All former and prospective employees must interview if they
are planning to work at the pool next season. Please pick up an application and sign up for your interview in the Recreation Office at
108 Rockaway Avenue. For further information call 516 465-4075.

Swimming Lesson Registration

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting
Children's swimming lessons for Village residents at the Adelphi
University Swimming Pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be six years of age by the start of the program to participate. This 9 week session will begin Saturday, December 8, 2012. Classes are taught by Red Cross Certified Instructors. The cost is $75.00. Rockaway
Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills
Level 2 - for children who have taken a lesson but need to learn
fundamental skills
Level 3 - will build on fundamental skills by providing guided
practices
Level 4 - Develops confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills
Level 5 - Provides further coordination and refinement of
strokes
Level 6P - Personal Water Safety - stresses survival floating,
treading water, swimming in clothes, etc.
Level 6F - Water Fitness - sessions will cover learning training
techniques, how to use fins, kickboards, pace, clock, etc.

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.
To register: by mail only, no walk in registrations will be accepted until Tuesday, December 4. We can not be held responsible
for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the
Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave or download it from our
website at www.gardencityrecreation.org. You can also make your
own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth
date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session
and classes for which you are registering with a first and second
choice. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City
Recreation Department at 108 Rockaway Avenue. Please make all
checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City".

LETTERS TO SANTA

It's time to send letters to Santa and the Recreation Department will speed up the process! A special "Santa's Mailbox" will be set up in the waiting area of the Recreation Department's Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Avenue beginning December 3rd . Children can drop their letters in the mailbox and Santa will send them a personalized reply. Santa's mailbox will be available through December 20th.

CHRISTMAS CANDY CONTEST

In addition to sending their letters to Santa, kids can take a chance at guessing the number of candy pieces in the jar next to Santa's Mailbox and the child whose guess is closest to the actual number will win the jar, candy and all! As with Santa's mailbox, the candy contest will be available from December 3RD to December 20th.

A VISIT FROM SANTA

Santa will visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue for visits and photos on December 11th and 13th from 3 pm-4:15 p.m. The Recreation Department Staff will be available to take and print photos. There is no fee for a photo but a donation of a small gift for Toys for Tots would be appreciated.

After School Program For Grades K and 1

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that this winter, the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in Kindergarten and 1st grade.

This program will consist of organized games and activities in a supervised setting. This program will run on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 pm in St. Paul's Field House beginning December 5th and ending February 13th. The program is free but a permission slip in necessary. For further information, please contact the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

Meeting Dates - December 5, 12, 19, January 2, 9,16, 23, 30,

February 6, 13

Sneakers must be worn for any activity in the field house. Although this is free, drop off program, a registration form is needed and can be picked up at the Recreation Office or filled out on the first day your child attends the program.

Please Note-Once the children are in our facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come into the building to pick up your child.

After School Gym Program For Grades 2 to 6

The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce
that this winter, Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct a gym program for children in grades 2 - 6.
This free program will consist of organized games and activities
in a supervised setting. It will run from 3:30 to 5:45 pm in St.
Paul's Field House beginning the week of December 3rd through
February 15th according to the following schedule:
Grades 4-6 Mondays from 3:30 - 5:45 pm
Grades 2-3 Fridays from 3:30 - 5:45 pm

SATURDAY MEN'S BASKETBALL AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

The Recreation Department will run its Winter Saturday morning basketball program again at the Garden City Middle School's gym beginning Saturday, December1st. This free program is for Garden City residents, college age or older and is strictly pick up in nature. The program runs from 8:30 to 11:30 am each Saturday until February 16. The program will not run on December 29.

Garden City TMA News

WHO WE ARE; The Men’s Association or simply the TMA is a charitable service organization whose mission is to raises funds for the Garden City High School and Middle School. These monies benefit various athletic and social programs within the schools as well as events such as the BAA/GAA Awards Dinner and the Mother-Son and Father- Daughter Dances. Other recent causes which have been supported by the TMA are SEPTA, the Trojan Club and Middle School Bagel Bash. The TMA is composed of over 100 active Directors, 50 Life Directors and 500 Family members.

TMA TAILGATE PARTY - This past Sunday a brave few saw our GC Trojans capture their thrilling victory over Wantagh in the Nassau County Championship game. Now it’s on to Stony Brook for the LI Championship game!! Thanks to the Pete and his crew at 7th St. Gourmet Deli for their donation of the much needed hot coffee.!!

UPCOMING EVENTS;

DECEMBER MEETING - Our monthly meeting will be held Monday, December 3rd at the Cherry Valley Club. Please note the change of location. Meeting will run from 7;30- 8;30 followed by an open bar and appetizers for the Monday Night Football game which features the N.Y. Giants matching up against the Washington Redskins. OFFICERS and DIRECTORS ONLY FOR THE MEETING!!! All Directors are encouraged to bring potential new candidates to enjoy the post-meeting fun and meet the group.

JANUARY MEETING - To be held on Monday, January 7th. Location TBA. This is the night of the NCAA BCS Football Championship Game. Looks like Notre Dame vs. the SEC Champ. Box pools, drink specials and food will be offered. The night is for DIRECTORS and their guests as well as any new prospective candidates for Directorship. Watch for more details.

WINE TASTING - To be held in early March, at Walk St. Open to all Directors and their guests. Proceeds to be donated to SEPTA. More details to follow.
