GC Boys In Chaminade Championship Game
Like a giant oak tree whose roots spread far and wide, Chaminade Football roots have spread from Mineola to Garden City. With six Chaminade starters, J.J. McDaid, Timmy Muller, Eric Prevete, Chris Gallic, Sean Walsh, Michael Walsh, haling from Garden City, the Flyers have a decidedly local feel.
It was a steamy August night on the fields of St. Paul’s ten years ago when thirty 7yr old boys anxiously waited to see who their Thunder Football coach would be. Little did these six boys know they would have the good fortune of having the best coach the Thunder program has ever seen, John McDaid.
John McDaid, former All- American linebacker from Hofstra, has coached these six boys for the last ten years, through the Thunder program and then through Chaminade. Coach McDaid with his fellow coaches, Coach Cortese, Coach Dooley, Coach Muller, taught these boys about football but also taught them about life. Coach McDaid taught them about hard-work, dedication, perseverance, and commitment to a common goal. For the past ten years these six boys worked-out, practiced, and competed together working towards a common goal all the while developing a special bond. Now for these six young men a common dream was realized when they beat Iona Prep on Saturday, and will now face St. Anthony’s this Saturday at 4:00 at Mitchell Field in the Catholic League Championship.
Come down and ROOT on the boys from Garden City this Saturday at 4:00 as they try to win the NYCHSFL Crown!
