Mr. Robert “Bobby” Cesare Pompilio, 74, passed away in Delray Beach, Florida on Monday, May 7th. Son of Cesare and Theresa (Zaccheo) Pompilio was born on February 19, 1938 in Bronx, NY. He graduated Richmond Hill HS 1954 and is a 1959 graduate of St. John’s University College of Pharmacy. Robert is the brother of Nino Pompilio and Virginia Ferriero.
Robert owned and operated John’s Pharmacy in Ozone Park, NY and resided in Garden City, NY until retiring to Florida.
Robert, better known to friend as Bob or Bobby, was entrenched in Garden City’s sports. He coached the Garden City Rams with George Campbell, Ernie Pont, and Gene Allegro; he was a head coach for numerous Little League and Babe Ruth squads, and he was the title sponsor for the John’s Pharmacy Softball Team. Robert also played on The Foul Balls and Leo’s softball squads.
On May 9th, 2003 Robert lost his second wife, Ruth Ann Pompilio- better known as Ruthie.
A private service was held at Forest Lawn Funeral
Home & Memorial Gardens on Thursday, May 10th, in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Robert’s favorite past time was to cheer on his favorites at Belmont Park.
Dr. Robert Caponegro
Dr. Robert Caponegro, of Port Washington, passed away from cancer at age 79. Robert attended Holy Cross College and Creighton Medical School. He was a Co-Chief of Service, Urology, at St. John’s Queens Hospital and Past President of Medical Staff at Wycoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. Robert owned a urology practice in Brooklyn with his late brothers, Francis Jr. and twin Peter.
He is survived by nephew Francis Caponegro III (and Sharon), nieces Susan Bacigalupo (and Charles) and Mary Caponegro (and Michael); grand nephews Francis IV, Charlie and grand nieces Michele, Angela, Laura & Zoe, aunt Margarete (and Peter & Mary) (all of Garden City).
A wake was held on May 24th at Fairchild Sons Garden City. A Funeral Mass will be said on May 25th at 10am at St.Anne’s Church in Garden City.
