GCHS Student Awarded For "Going Green" Entry
Stefan Marchhart, “Going Green” competition winner Stefan Marchhart, a student in Dr. Steven Gordon's science research class at Garden City High School, recently won second place in the "Going Green on Long Island Using Alternative Energy Research Competition." The competition was open to students in grades 9-12 and this year received more than 100 entries. The top 4% of research plans were chosen as winners. Stefan researched solar energy and solar panels for his submission, an interest he developed after his father's recent launch of a green energy lighting company. "I was surprised," the freshman commented about his placing second in the competition. "I didn't think I'd place second. Obviously, I'm very happy!"
Stefan was awarded a certificate, a $100 check and, along with his family, was invited to the March 3rd reception at the Seatuck Nature Center where he was honored along with the Sierra Club of LI's Environmentalist of the Year.
