Garden City Teacher Receives NEFCU Grant

Stratford second-grade teacher Virginia McCavera, pictured at right with Stratford students and assistant principal Janet Gonzalez, was recently selected to receive monies from Nassau Educator's Federal Credit Union's (NEFCU) "Funding Your Ideas" Teacher Grant Program. Ms. McCavera applied to NEFCU for monies to develop a classroom read-along center. "Students will be able to read along with a book while enjoying the accompanying music, sound effects, and narrating actor as he/she gives voice to a fine piece of children's literature," Miss McCavera explained. "The read-along center will be a valuable addition to the classes' balanced literacy program and target standards in the following areas: reading fluency with accuracy, appropriate pacing and expression, and intonation and listening comprehension."
