Too Much Speeding

To the Editor:

There was a time when Garden City ,especially Stewart Ave., was considered one of the most feared places for speeders .The traffic court was usually filled to capacity with speeding offenders resulting in motorists keeping to the speed limits while passing through our village and offenders providing much needed revenue .

I urge you to contrast what was with the state of enforcement which exists today . It appears that there is no attempt to enforce speed limits at all . If you drive even at 40 mph. traffic roars by you as if you were standing still . When was the last time you saw a radar unit enforcing speed limits on Stewart Ave .especially at rush hour? There are plenty of truck weight checks but when it comes to enforcement of speed limits we have abdicated and surrendered to the aggressive drivers . Go by any of our schools and you will find that most drivers ignore the 20 mph.signs altogether . This is most obvious alongside the high school on a main road All you need do is observe for yourself .
