Girls Basketball Extends Record

Photo by Newsphoto.com Garden City’s girls basketball team extended its overall record to 10-2, and its conference record to 4-1, after defeating the New Hyde Park Gladiators on Friday evening January 20 at Garden City High School. The Trojans took a commanding 12-3 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter was equally as impressive for GC as the team held a 32-11 lead at halftime. New Hyde Park had a strong third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 15-14, but the 4th quarter belonged to GC as the Trojans went on to win 59-30. Garden City senior Kim Ryan, and freshman Sam Auricchio, led the scoring with 15 points each. Nine of Ryan’s points came off of 3- pointers and Auricchio added 6 rebounds. Katie Trimmer was next with 14 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth consecutive double-double. Christina Mangels had 6 points,15 rebounds, 8 steals and 4 assists.
