Boys Varsity Swim and Dive Suffers First Loss to Jericho, Beat Cold Spring Harbor
Frank Caponegro swims the breaststroke portion of the 200 Medley Relay at Jericho On Tuesday, January 17th, the Boys Varsity Swim and Dive team traveled to Jericho for a much anticipated match up. The boys would have to be at their best to achieve a win over a very strong and versatile Jericho team. Competing without two key swimmers (Dan Finnegan and Kyle Zarriello), the boys fought hard to the last event but came away with their first loss of the season. The final score was Jericho 96, Garden City 84. Coach Anne was very impressed with how the boys swam, many achieving season best times. The next time the teams will meet will be at the Nassau County Championships. Coach Anne is anticipating another close contest. Congratulations to Connor Brown who qualified for the New York State Championship Meet (States) in the 500 freestyle. Two days later, the boys took on Cold Spring Harbor. The boys again did not have a full squad but once again fought hard and the team found themselves on the victorious side. The final score was Garden City 106, Cold Spring Harbor 77. The team’s record is now 6-1, which is one of their strongest starts.
