Look At Whole Picture

To the Editor:

Picture the St. Paul's building with lights on in the windows and residents enjoying their apartments. Picture the income received by the Village to help offset the severe shortage of funds to maintain our infrastructure. Picture us concentrating on the many other problems facing the Village.

This could be the case right now, if a group of people had not fought vehemently in the name of "Saving St. Paul's" for "public use" against the only private source of renovation funds - Avalon Bay. The Village walked away from $50 Million of financing, due to the misguided efforts of the mayor and trustees in 2004 that burdened the building with a parkland designation, and the perception that the building could be converted to a use far removed from that for which it was designed.

Having turned away private funds, this group now expects the Village to use tax money that should be used for roads and fire engines on Band-Aid repairs to the building, while waiting for the White Knight to arrive again.

Make sure you vote for trustees Episcopia and Daughney who are working on the whole fiscal picture, not one who would come back to make affairs worse yet.
