MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM: THE POLICE REPORT
MORE THEFTS FROM CARS: A wallet was removed from a vehicle parked at a Transverse Road residence on January 18th. On the same day, a GPS device was removed from a vehicle parked at a Linden Street residence. Other vehicles parked in the vicinity of these residences were entered with no reported theft at this time
SOLICITER TICKETED: A 21 year old Syosset man, working for an approved solicitation agency, was issued an appearance ticket for soliciting at a residence listed on the Village’s non solicitation list. Residents who want to be added to the list can fill out a form at Village Hall and specify which groups are allowed to come to the door seeking donations.
LOSING MORE THAN WEIGHT at the gym: A lock to a gym locker at the NY Sports Club was removed and a wallet containing a credit cards and cash was found missing on January 18th.
ERRATIC DRIVING: A 50 year old Garden City man was arrested for aggravated DWI (.18% BAC) and for a lane violation after being stopped on Chestnut Street and Magnolia Avenue for erratic driving.
OBSCURED LICENSE: On January 19th Police Officer Sansone observed a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of Avalon Road. Police say the rear plate was covered in a manner to avoid detection. The vehicle was stopped and upon an investigation it was determined that the registration to the vehicle was from North Carolina. In addition, the registration was suspended and the vehicle was not insured. The vehicle was then impounded and the driver, a M/38 from Lawrence, was cited for suspended registration, uninsured operation and obstructed license plate.
DNA CATCHES BURGLAR: Garden City detectives arrested a 20 year old Westbury man for a burglary that occurred in 2009 on Russell Road. The arrest was based on evidence gathered during the lengthy investigation which included matches on DNA initially collected at the scene of the crime.
FORGED COMPANY CHECKS: On January 20th a Garden City Plaza business reports that someone cashed two forged company checks totaling more that $1,600.
MARIJUANA ARREST: As a result of an investigation conducted in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue, Garden City detectives arrested a sixteen year old Garden City boy for two counts of selling marijuana.
DWI ARREST: Police Officer Oswald stopped a 26 year old Westbury man on January 22nd for driving his vehicle on Clinton Road at Old Country Road not signaling lane changes and for driving over the center lane markings. He was arrested for DWI (.09% BAC), 3 lane violations, and uninsured operation.
ANOTHER VEHICLE ENTERED: A vehicle parked at a Garden Street residence was rummaged through on January 22nd. No reported loss.
CAR DAMAGED: The driver’s side window, mirror and door to a vehicle parked in the Garden City Plaza Parking Field were found damaged on January 23rd. Total damage is in excess of $500.
TRUCK STOP: A Commercial Vehicle Inspection on January 23rd on Clinton Road. Sixteen vehicles were inspected, eight placed out of service, eight had weight violations and 82 tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations.
AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT of money was removed from a vehicle parked at a Rockaway Avenue residence on January 25th.
