Garden City residents take note: A limited supply of 2011-12 Garden City Public School calendars are available and can be picked up at the Administration Building during regular business hours.

At the January 18th meeting of the Garden City Board of Education, School Board Vice President Barbara Trapasso and Trustees Angela Heineman and Laura Hastings claimed several residents expressed disappointment at their prior evening’s property owners’ association meetings that the school calendar was not mailed to residences this year. The district stopped mailing it to residents as a cost-saving measure and as part of its effort to be more environmentally friendly.

The calendar is available on the school district’s Web site. However, some residents were not pleased, according to Heineman. Several people who are not computer savvy rely on the information provided in the calendar and preferred a hard copy.

“They felt, well, some of us are not so computer literate,” she said.

Hastings said some residents asked if the school district would consider mailing a postcard to let them know the calendar is available at the Administration Building. Dr. Feirsen and other school board trustees said no.
