ZUMBA GOLD FOR THE ACTIVE SENIOR

Dance director Felicia Lovaglio will again conduct Zumba Gold classes, sessions geared for Active Seniors or beginners over the age of 50. The newest way to exercise gives you a great workout while moving to fun music!

Classes will be held in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall on Tuesdays at 9:15 am, beginning Tuesday, January 24. The 45 minute class, led by Felicia Lovaglio, runs for 15 weeks at a cost of $60. ADDITIONAL ZUMBA GOLD CLASS OFFERED

Due to the high demand of this wonderful program, an additional Zumba Gold class per week is now going to be offered on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. This 45 minute class will introduce you to the fun new exercise craze to great music! The class is open to any resident over 55, will run for 12 weeks at a cost of $48. To register for this program, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave.

ADULT ART CLASSES AT CLUETT HALL

Beginning February 17, he Recreation Department will again offer an adult pastel class taught by Arleen Ruth Urban. This class is open to adult residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Our classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Friday in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of the 10 week program will be $110 (Supplies are bought on your own- a supply list will be handed out at the first class).

This program will teach the beginner as well as advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastels from photographs. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape, or they may concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required to work at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in the many Garden City homes.

NEW TRIPS OFFERED THROUGH GARDEN CITY RECREATION

Our Recreation Office is offering several trips this spring in conjunction with Prime Time Travel. Here is a description of each trip:

Philadelphia Flower Show on Wednesday, March 7 - We will travel to Philadelphia on a Prime Time Bus and then attend one of the country’s premier Flower Shows. This year’s them is “Islands of Aloha”. You will have plenty of time to see all the exhibits, visit the vendors and maybe sit in on a workshop or two. Lunch is on your own.

Free Legal Clinic For Seniors

The Nassau County Bar Association (NCBA) provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Seniors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney who volunteers to provide a half-hour private consultation on any topic of concern. The next Senior Citizen Free Legal Consultation Clinic will be held Wednesday, February 15, at 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. at NCBA, 15th and West Streets, Mineola. This popular free program regularly fills up quickly. Registration is required by calling 516-747-4070 or emailing info@nassaubar.org. check payable to Prime Time Travel. Harlem on Our Mind on Thursday, April 26 - Prime Time Travel will first take us to the beautiful St. John the Divine Church, where we will take a tour. We will then have lunch at the famous Sylvia’s. We will finish by visiting and learning the history of the world famous Apollo Theatre.

Get to Know the Real New York on Wednesday, May 23 - Prime Time Travel will begin our journey through the history of New York by taking us to the newly renovated NY Historical Society, where we will tour the various exhibits from the early times of New York’s beginnings to the present. We will then have lunch at Carmines. After Carmines, we will continue on to the Museum of the City of New York.

The cost of this trip will be $99. To register for this trip, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. A deposit of $30 must accompany your registration. Checks only, please make your check payable to Prime Time Travel. We have only 10 seats left for this trip.

ST. PAUL’S SENIOR CENTER HOURS

Fall is approaching and St. Paul's Senior Center is open and
again running programs for Seniors to enjoy! The Center is open
from 9 am to 4 pm, Mondays through Fridays, for senior individuals to either participate in the programs offered or to just sit, relax
and enjoy the setting.
