It’s What’s Happening For Young Adults

ZUMBA WORKSHOP

Certified Zumba instructor Maria will teach Zumba, a cardio dance class, on Monday, July 18th from 7 - 8:30 PM. Registration began Friday, July 1st online on Eventkeeper at www.gardencitypl.org. and is limited to 35 YAs. All ‘tweens and teens must have their own Library card to register. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and to bring water bottles for hydration.

ZENTANGLE WORKSHOP

Zentangle is an easy to learn method of making beautiful images from repetitive patterns. MaryAnn Scheblein-Dawson will help participants create a zentangle during a fun, creative workshop on Wednesday, July 20th from 7 - 8:30PM. Registration began July 6th on Eventkeeper and is limited to 25 YAs. Participants will take home a kit to be able to make more zentangles.

LIBRARY DJ HERO

On Monday, July 25th from 7 - 8:30PM, 2X-treme Entertainment Productions, inc. will return to the Library to assist YAs in playing DJ Hero on a Wii system. Refreshments will be served. Registration began on July 11th on Eventkeeper. This program is limited to 50 YAs.

BEAUTY WITHOUT CRUELTY

Do you love animals? Do you love looking beautiful? Allison Paulo will teach YAs about vegan and vegetarian beauty products that are animal friendly and environmentally responsible on Wednesday, July 27th from 7:30 - 8:45PM. Registration began July 13th on Eventkeeper and is limited to 25 YAs. Participants will create salt and sugar scrubs using a variety of essential oils. All of the products used will be organic and plant-based, of the highest quality.

LUNCH@THE LIBRARY

Come and cool off this summer at the Library! Bring your brown bag lunch and enjoy lunch, games and crafts with your friends at the Library on Thursdays July 21, and 28 at 12 noon. Beverages, snacks and desserts will be served courtesy of the YA department and The Friends of the Garden City Public Library. No registration is required. On July 21st, play Library Minute to Win IT, based on the NBC-TV game show. On July 28th, Library pages will assist with making bracelets from Central America and masks of African origin.

YOUNG ADULT 2011 SUMMER READING CLUB

You Are Here

Everyone entering or in Middle School or High School is invited to travel the universe via You Are Here, the Summer Reading Club for Young Adults at the Garden City Public Library. Registration started Monday, June 13th and continues throughout July. The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Club is Travel. If you are away all summer, you may still join and participate in the You Are Here Summer Reading Club. Contact Mrs. Kelly at (516) 742- 8405 or come in to the YA desk. This year’s Back to School Bash will be held on Wednesday, August 31st. There will be a pizza party with a talent show and games, door prizes and auctions, and certificates of achievement.

SUMMER PROGRAM INFORMATION

For more information about the many special summer programs for YAs, you can pick up flyers in the YA Room or check the Library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming summer events and registration dates. Registration can be done through Eventkeeper or the Calendar of Events on the Library’s website. All teens and ‘tweens must have their own Library card to register for programs. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority registration is given to Young Adults, who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
