Socially Speaking
The times they are a-changin! They seem to change so often it is hard to keep up with them. Going back always, such as - folks used to get married first and now they try it out to see if they like it first. People used to write Thank You notes for gifts and hand written invitations to dinner parties were the order of the day. Styles change before you even get a chance to buy something you think you might and lo and behold - it’s out of date. Now it’s just twitter, cell phone folks while you are shopping in the supermarket, and use all those other machines that are supposed to make life easier and keep people connected. Somehow, I think it has more of the opposite effect and I really liked to write notes and letters and share my thoughts with friends and have them write back with their ideas. Oh well! Guess there is nothing I can do about it, but I do try. Just call me old-fashioned and call it a day.
I can hardly wait for the Yard Sale at the G.C. Historical Society’s place. I remember the last two and thought they were great and I even came away with a bargain that I have gotten a lot of use out of. I hope Kris Harder gets a lot of people to sign up for tables as it’s really a nice way to get rid of the things you don’t use, no longer use and want out of the way. They find a new home and everyone wins. Certainly the Historical Society wins from the rent of the space, the one who sells their things wins (and who knows them better than themselves) and last, but not least the new owners - who need that item and could find it nowhere else. See you there!
While Spring has brought out new activities for most of us, Bridge players are always looking for a game. This coming Monday, May 23rd the Social players in the G.C. Branch of the American Association of University Women will have a crack at a good game Co-chaired by Justine Butz and Carole Rilling. Good for you ladies.
Happy birthday wishes go to Chuck Vasoll, Mike Balboni and Jack Morrison. May they all have a wonderful day celebrating and also have a year filled with good health and much happiness with many more to come.

Many of our other club ladies are busy planning their programs for the coming year and from what I hear, the members of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead are in for another gala year. This will be their 92nd so you know they are doing something right. Paula Rega is busy lining up programs for the Art Dept. of the club and from what I hear, they are all in for a nice treat. Geraldine McHugh is the new President of that Club and she has assembled a great group of ladies to lead all the various departments they have. You know, I have always believed that many hands make light work and especially when the hands are such good ones. In addition to programs for their members and guests, a lot more is offered. They have wonderful tours, and wonderful classes in so many areas such as: Botanical Painting, Oil, Acrylic and Watercolor Painting, Pastel Painting, Charcoal and Pencil Drawing, and Flower Arranging in several design schools. For more information you can call Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9:30 to 12:30 mornings at 746-0488 and the Club Secretary, Willa Ward will be happy to send you a membership application. All programs and tours are open to the membership.
And now, as we count down to Memorial day and hopefully Summer, here is your thought for the week. A friend is someone you can do nothing with and still enjoy it. See you next week.
