“Will Sing For Food”

Singing for Food (Kevin Ryan)
Singing for Food (Kevin Ryan) The concert “Will Sing for Food” might remind people of the Broadway musical, “Oliver”, where little Oliver sings the song, “Food, Glorious Food”. Oliver sings for one person, yet this group of talented singers and musicians sang for food for over 1,500 people- all at the Mary Brennan INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network). The concert was performed at Garden City Community Church recently, sponsored by the GCCC Board of Outreach. Proceeds of over $4,500 were given to the INN.

“Our guests at the INN just need a hand up a lot of times. It’s not always a hand out…just really to know that somebody cares about them. I always say, when you see somebody without a smile, give them one of yours because it doesn’t cost a thing,“ Cynthia Sucich, INN Director of Communications stated.

This event wasn’t about the people on the stage that night- it was about our collective mission to help feed the hungry.”

“It was an amazing cast, crew and band” with “everyone bringing their talents to the table and doing something they love with an end goal of feeding the hungry,” remarked John Mezzo.

George Petersen, Musical Director, worked with the cast of 25 seasoned performers, who consisted of Chris Bucheri, Michaela Dougherty, Diane Feyrer, Ron Giumenta, Billy, Katie and Rick Herbst, Jason Korfine, Cathryn and John Mezzo, Gabe and Kay Mollica, Anna and Andy Morreale, McLaine Rich, Maura and Melissa Ryan, Glenn Schifano, Mike Veny, Alexandra Vernice, Emma and Bill Volz, Jonathan Warhurst, Jennifer and Jillian Yoo.

Other volunteers included Carolyn Giumenta, Carolyn Herbst, Janet Martens, Janice Mazzari, Joy Mollica and Kathy Yoo.

The coordinators of the show were Andy and Nancy Morreale, John and Cathryn Mezzo and Melissa Ryan.

Like little “Oliver”, there are many Long Islanders, young and old, who need a place to be fed. The soup kitchen, INN is there for them, with the motto “Serving Hungry and Homeless Long Islanders with Dignity, Respect and Love.”
