In Memoriam  Mary L. Kavazanjian

Mary L. Kavazanjian 84, of Garden City, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 in Syracuse, N.Y. while visiting her daughter.

Mary graduated from Long Beach High School, Hofstra University and received an M.A. from Adelphi University. She also studied at the Art Students League and the New School. She was an art teacher in the Plainview- Old Bethpage public school district and prior to that briefly with the Hempstead school district.

Mary was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who will be remembered for her warmth, outgoing personality, kindness, and her love for travel and the arts.

She was a member of the Manhasset Art League, where she won honors for her paintings. She was also active in many Garden City organizations; Garden City Community Club, Garden City Community Church, Garden City Cancer Association, volunteer work at Winthrop University Hospital, AAUW, and was a member of Cherry Valley Country Club. She and her husband were world travelers and she enjoyed art and classical music in her spare time.

Mary was pre-deceased by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Kavazanjian. She is survived by two children, Kathryn Leonard (Daniel) of Manlius, New York and Thomas A. Kavazanjian (Jan) of Setauket, Long Island, and five wonderful grandchildren.

The funeral and burial was a private ceremony at Calverton National Cemetery conducted by her granddaughter Kim Kavazanjian on November 8th.
