2010-09-03 / Community

Children and adolescents can experience headaches that disrupt their daily activities and affect their quality of life. However, there are treatment options that can help. Winthrop-University Hospital’s Parenting Today educational series will offer a free lecture, “Headaches & Migraines: Don’t Let Your Child Suffer” on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 7:00 PM. The program will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.

Vijaya L. Atluru, MD, Chief of Pediatric Neurology and Director of the Children’s Headache Program, will discuss how parents can help their children find relief from headaches such as migraines, cluster and tension-type headaches, and those caused by medical conditions. Dr. Atluru will include an explanation of the evaluation process and treatment options, including both traditional and alternative therapies. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM and park in the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a space, please call 1-866-WINTHROP.

The Parenting Today program is coordinated by Children’s Health Services and the Department of Pediatrics, part of the Institute for Family Care at Winthrop.
