It’s What’s Happening For Young Adults Make Waves @ Your Library - The

Young Adult Summer Reading Club

The summer may be half over, but there is still plenty going on in The Young Adult Room. There is still time to join the Young Adult Summer Reading Club. Youths entering 6th through 12th grades may sign up at the Young Adult desk and receive a bag with prizes, coupons and mini-review forms. Or, they may sign up online from the Garden City Public Library’s website and come in at a later time to claim the bag. The club is simple - sign-up, read, tell the librarians what you have read by doing a mini-review, win raffles, and then get invited to the Back-to-School Bash in August.

School requires you to read during the summer, fill out a mini review and double your pleasure. Also, there is a display of themed books in YA. Select something fiction or non-fiction on swimming, surfing, fishing, aquatic wildlife to read for your summer pleasure. New books arrive daily for your summer pleasure reading. The Young Adult room was very busy in July with requests for summer reading books, especially audio books.

The raffles are still going strong and the early winners each received a dolphin surf necklace. Next week there is a new prize and the more mini-reviews turned in the better your chances of being a winner. How are the summer assignments coming along? Don’t forget to complete a mini-review for the assignment books. You may win a prize in addition to getting ready for September and school.

The Summer Reading Club is not just reading. Each week there is a jar filled with goodies on the shelf of the YA wall. Try your hand at guesstimating the number of treats in the jar. Winner gets the contents. In the case of a tie the booty is divided.
