Breast Cancer Program Celebrates Anniversary
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is marking its 30th Anniversary with a Celebration of Survivorship that will feature award-winning novelist Alice Hoffman and entertainer Lisa Velez-Mello, professionally known as Lisa Lisa. On Monday evening, October 4, Ms. Hoffman and Ms. Velez-Mello, both breast cancer survivors, will be joined by four women who have played a key role in the development and success of this program: social workers Lois Carey and Barbara Balaban, breast surgeon Karen Kostroff, and bilingual outreach worker and volunteer Jean Rettura.
This celebration will underscore the changes that have occurred in societal awareness about breast cancer since the program began in 1980 and will provide an opportunity to celebrate the help that people have been able to receive over the 30 years.
The event will be held at the Ruth S, Harley University Center Ballroom at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York. Doors open at 6:15 pm and a light supper will be served. Registration is required; a suggested donation of $30 will support the continued work of the program. Call 516-877-4325 or emailing breastcancerhotline@adelphi.edu.
