A Word From The Publisher
We were glad to hear that the Garden City Board of Education has decided to enter into an energy performance contract with ConEdison Solutions. Under the agreement, ConEd Solutions will install $16 million worth energy efficient systems including several boilers, lighting systems, computerized temperature controls and some solar energy panels. Upon completing the contract, it will guarantee to the district that the cost of the energy savings will be greater than the cost of the installations.
Since the school district needed to upgrade many of these items anyway (some of the school boilers were pretty ancient), this seems like a “no brainer” solution that will save the taxpayers money into the future.
At a time when it seems as if governments (state and federal) want to solve today’s budget problems by pushing them off until tomorrow, it’s nice to hear that someone actually has an eye on the future.

As we have mentioned in previous weeks, this is our slowest period of the year. That’s an opportunity for anyone who has a news item that they would like to appear in the paper. (Isn’t anyone having a block party this summer???)
