“Salute To Veterans” Concert On August 7
The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park will host the annual “Salute to Veterans” concert on Saturday, August 7, announced Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano.
The event, this year dedicated to the families of veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, includes a ceremony at 6:45 p.m. followed by entertainment at 7:30 p.m. Performers include the USO troupe, “Liberty Bells,” and “Uppercut: The Ultimate Horn Band.”
The Liberty Bells, part of a military entertainment tradition that stretches back to World War II, offer up a musical mix that incorporates Big Band standards, contemporary hits and patriotic favorites. Uppercut is a nine-piece band dedicated to the music of the great horn bands of the past 40 years, as well as its own original compositions. The band, which mixes funk, rock and R&B, will play the music of Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire and Steely Dan, among others.
Eisenhower Park, operated by the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums, is located in East Meadow with entrances at Stewart Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike. The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre is located near parking fields 6 and 6A. Accommodations are available for disabled patrons, including reserved parking, easily accessible restrooms, and a convenient reserved location on the hill. Assistive hearing devices are also available for the hearing impaired.
There is no formal seating at Lakeside Theatre, so concert-goers are urged to bring folding chairs. If weather conditions are doubtful on the night of the concert, call (516) 572-0355 after 7 p.m. for updated performance information.
